We ask them to fight for us overseas
When they come home, we should look after them
It is estimated that 1 in 10 homeless people in the UK is an ex-serviceman. Veterans, especially those who have seen combat, are 3 times as likely to have been convicted of a violent offence compared to the general population. Alcohol abuse, and the effects of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) are problems years in the making. Yet little seems to be done. The Government has just announced another £7m of funding to help these men and women – that’s the cost of 1 day’s membership of the EU. This figure is an insult.
It is simply not good enough. National government and local authorities need to do more, much more, to help these ex-servicemen who are falling through the cracks. We need to support them and the various charities associated with these problems who are best placed to help and UKIP will pledge to do so.
